WebResults Predictions for the Future

Where We See the Web Going:

  • Eventually, greater bandwidth and faster speeds for transfer of Web information

  • More multimedia, audio and video (and more wasted bandwidth)

  • Some disillusionment with the Web and backlash against it

  • Greater emphasis on obtaining results from those who pay for Web sites

  • Greater emphasis on providing useful content and value to site visitors

  • More dialogue, interaction and development of communities

  • Shift from broadcasting (same content to everyone) to narrowcasting (content geared to smaller groups with common interests) to unicasting (customization of content for individual visitor)

  • Greater use of intranets (private Web sites) for internal communication and extranets for organization to organization interactions and business

  • Wireless: design not just for the Web but for handhelds, cell phones, etc.

  • Integration with other media, television and telephone so that use of the Web and Internet is transparent and nearly instinctive.
